BackgroundInsulin is a hormone that regulates glucose homeostasis. It increases cell permeability to monosaccharides, amino acids and fatty acids, and it accelerates glycolysis, the pentose phosphate cycle, and glycogen synthesis in liver. It is synthesized in the beta cell of the pancreas.
